TEACHING CONSENT: Students learn no means no

CORNWALL, Ontario – The St. Lawrence College Cornwall campus got the message loud and clear at a public demonstration Thursday – dressing provocatively is not an open invitation for domestic or sexual violence.

Ten Thousand Villages: Celebrating 20 years in Truro

April MacHattie does not remember Christmas without Ten Thousand Villages.

That’s because both she and Ten Thousand Villages Truro are now 20 years old. Lynn Reid, fondly remembers her father cradling MacHattie as an infant while she helped at the sale. MacHattie’s older sister Josee has been known to say, “Christmas would not be Christmas without Ten Thousand Villages.” The sisters continue to make it a priority to come home to help at the fair trade gift sales and reconnect with the many friends they have worked with over the years. This year the sale is Friday Nov. 28, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 29, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Immanuel Baprtist Church, 295 Young St., Truro.

We always welcome the new energy that youth bring to our sales. Canada World Youth, SLATE Youth Center, Katimavik, CEC Interact volunteers and whole classes and many others have helped. Thier favourite job is unpacking the truckload of product. It is like Christmas morning itself, unpacking all the amazing handiwork made by artisans from more than 30 countries around the world.
