Canada World Youth representative, Jamie Rooney, selected as one of 50 cyclists to ride alongside Lance Armstrong in support of cancer programs and patient care in Ontario!

August 24, 2011 – Saturday August 27, 2010, Jamie Rooney, a Canada World Youth Alumni and Member of the Board of Directors, will once again get on his bike and ride in support of an important cause. In 2010, Jamie undertook a three-month cross-country bicycle tour in an effort to raise funds for Canada World Youth and development projects in Mozambique, Africa. This Saturday, August 27th, he will represent Canada World Youth as one of 50 cyclists to ride alongside cancer survivor, and seven-time Tour de France winner, Lance Armstrong, as part of Ride with Lance ( an important fundraising event in support of cancer programs and patient care in Ontario.

This year’s event will take place in Jamie’s home town of Waterloo, Ontario. The 2-day fundraising event is in support of the Grand River Hospital Foundation (, a top rated cancer center in Ontario, providing high-quality care services and timely access to cancer treatment. Each of the 50 participating cyclist will raise $20,000 dollars in support of this facility through the 120 km cycling ride and related celebrations.

Canada World Youth is proud of Jamie`s ongoing initiative to create lasting, positive change in his community, and wishes him and the other cyclists the best of luck this coming Saturday.
